4 Effective Ways to Reduce Paper Clutter

If you find yourself overwhelmed by paper clutter, rest assured you’re not alone in this struggle. Paper can be particularly challenging to declutter as it seems to accumulate from various sources.

Despite my best cleaning attempts, I could never seem to stay on top of the constant accumulation of paper mess. This persistent issue drove me to search for a definitive solution to effectively minimize paper clutter in my household, which is what I’m sharing with you here.

How I reduced paper clutter

The issue of paper clutter is a common one, with mail piling up in various areas of the home. Junk mail can quickly take over your mailbox, and organizing all of this paper can seem like an impossible task. However, I’ve found the easiest way to deal with paper clutter is to keep it from coming into your house in the first place.

While this may seem difficult, it’s possible to do so with some effort and in less time than you’d think. By taking steps to reduce the amount of mail you receive, you can effectively keep it under control. Let’s dive in!

1/ OPT FOR PAPERLESS STATEMENTS & ONLINE BILL PAY

From utility bills and bank statements to 401k’s and various other types of correspondence, nowadays you have access to all your accounts online, eliminating the need for physical copies and the hassle of dealing with them.

By requesting electronic format only, you’ll reduce paper clutter, streamline your document management processes and help the environment.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Search online “How to enroll in paperless [billing, statements, etc.] at [company’s name]”

  2. Follow the online instructions

  3. Repeat for each account

2/ NIX CREDIT CARD & INSURANCE OFFERS

Have you ever received a credit card or insurance offer in your mailbox and thought, "Wow, this is exactly what I need!"? Yeah, me neither.

These offers are nothing more than a marketing tactic used by the issuers, cluttering up our homes. Don’t fall victim. Opt out.

  1. Visit OptOutPrescreen.com

  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page & press “Click Here to Opt-In or Opt-Out"

  3. Follow the instructions to complete the form

3/ REDUCE MAIL FROM MARKETERS

Everyday our mailboxes are filled with unwanted advertisements, catalogs, fliers and other unnecessary items that quickly turn into clutter once they enter our homes.

To combat this issue, register at DMAchoice.org to remove yourself from marketers’ lists. The $4 registration fee kinda sucks, but in the end, totally worth it!

4/ CURB THE WEEKLY COUPON FLIER

Do you get these every week? Did you know you can opt out? Well, you can. And I did. Thanks Jason, our mail carrier for the tip.

Visit save.com to put a stop to the Mailer.
